Training: complete raw workflow based on Lightroom

“I’m loving the new world that you have brought me into with your knowledge of Lightroom and raw files. You have massively reduced my workflow, setting me up with a far more efficient photo library.”

(Jon Nash, of Jon Nash Visuals, Brighton.)

We deliver training for photographers based on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3. We offer half-day, one-day and two-day sessions as well as ongoing software support and training.

One-on-one training—we visit you!

Available throughout the UK at your office, studio or home. You use your own equipment, in your own environment and the training uses your own images—it’s the best way for you to learn and to retain what you’ve learned. (Contact us if you need an alternative arrangement.)

Who’s it for?

  • Professional photographers who need to settle on a proven digital image workflow that includes management of a large library of existing images.
  • Emerging photographers who want to get to grips with image organisation, optimal image quality and print quality and build a well organised library early on.
  • Serious, dedicated amateurs who want to work quickly and achieve great results, technically minded or not.
  • We’re training photographers, not engineers and scientists—we keep things simple!

What does the training cover?

Every aspect of digital workflow, from capture to final output (fine-art print, online gallery, submission for publication or stock). We speak with you first and deliver content that’s useful for you, after we’ve heard from you about what’s holding back the quality or speed of your workflow or just the enjoyment you get from it . Call us on 020 3092 2907 or e-mail us and we’ll send you the complete list of topics by e-mail and discuss the emphasis you’d like placed on each.

What we need from you:

  • An environment in which you won’t be interrupted too often.
  • A chair for the instructor and a chair for you.
  • A desk-and-chair arrangement that will allow both of us to get a good view of the computer display.

For best results, you should have:

  • A recent Apple Mac or Windows PC with an Intel processor and at least 3GB of RAM
  • A copy of Lightroom 3
  • A source of your own images to work on. Ideally, some raw files should be included but we can take photographs to obtain raw files during the training, if needed.
  • A digital SLR or similar.
  • A card reader or USB cable to hook up the camera and the computer.

What we deliver

  • Digital workflow training that’s based on what you need to achieve, at a pace you’re comfortable with.
  • A very friendly, non-geeky approach. No rush, no techie jargon.
  • A published Lightroom book. (There are several that we choose from, depending on your interest and preference.)
  • For one-day and two-day courses, lunch, at a restaurant near you. Having lunch away from the working environment provides a much needed break. We can keep talking digital workflow (if you like) but things will be better in the afternoon if you’re away from your desk for an hour.
  • We bring a MacBook running Lightroom and adapters to hook it up to a screen with DVI or VGA input.

Lightroom courses in London

Most of our training is in the form of one-to-one tuition but we do have several locations in central London in which we hold group training sessions. If you’re interested in learning as part of a group (to reduce the cost of the course), please either fill in the relevant fields in the contact form or send us your e-mail address. We’ll write to you before we schedule the next course in 2012.

Availability

We’re taking bookings now for one-to-one training in February and March 2012.

More information

Please call 020 3092 2907 to discuss content or send us e-mail. We don’t employ any salespeople so if we’re not out training, you’ll end up speaking with us directly—we’re always happy to hear from you and we use no sales tactics or pressure.

Collectives or teams

If you’re part of a photographic collective and would like training at your premises together, to reduce the cost per person, we’d be happy to work something out with you. Please call to discuss.

Next step: please complete the contact form

The best way to get in touch is using our contact form: click here. All the fields are optional so please skip anything you think isn’t helpful. Please provide as much information as you can about what is holding you back in your own photographic workflow. (Don’t worry if you don’t have a photographic workflow as such—you wouldn’t be the first photographer to tell us that!) Tell us how and when you’d like us to reach you (by e-mail or phone) and we’ll be in touch. We’ll talk through the things that are important to you and get an idea of the areas you’d benefit most from. We’re on (020) 3092 2907 so of course, you can call at any time if you prefer but the form (click here) helps you get an idea of the questions we’re likely to ask you on the phone. We look forward to speaking with you.
